Sacred Fire

Sacred Fire is a neon installation that embodies the element of fire and its transformative power. It serves as a space for rituals, music, dance, and manifestation. Fire has been a potent symbol in numerous traditions and cultures throughout history. It plays a central role in many shamanic practices, guiding us in recreating and manifesting change in our lives. As the only natural source of light that humans can control, fire has been essential for survival — providing warmth during cold winters, enabling cooking, and fostering societal development. Since the discovery and mastery of fire, humanity has been advancing — faster and faster. Yet, fire also holds the potential to destroy everything we have built.

In many cultures, fire has not only been a source of survival but also a powerful spiritual force. Ritual dances around the fire have been performed for centuries, often symbolizing purification, healing, and the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds. For example, among the Native American tribes, dances around the fire are integral to ceremonies that honor the earth and invoke spiritual guidance. Similarly, in Celtic traditions, the ancient festival of Samhain involved dancing around fire to honor the cycles of life and death, and to protect communities from evil spirits. In Polynesian and Hawaiian cultures, the fire dance has long been a way of paying homage to the gods and natural forces, with performers using fire props to express strength and beauty. These sacred dances illustrate the dual nature of fire — as a force of creation and destruction — and its profound symbolic power.

This installation is a tribute to this primal element and its role in both our physical and spiritual lives.

Created for my PhD exhibition in November 2024 in Prague, Sacred Fire was utilized in ceremonies, concerts, dance workshops, prayers, and a variety of conscious works, embracing the spirit of ritual and transformation.

This installation can be adjusted or recreated for any space.
